Zelensky congratulates Ukrainian national team at Paralympic Games in Tokyo with 13 medals won
KYIV. Sept 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated the Ukrainian national team at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo with 13 medals won on the seventh day of the competition.
"At Tokyo 2020, our Paralympians have once again shown what they are capable of! We have 13 awards! Swimmers Andriy Trusov and Maksym Kripak and athlete Maksym Koval brought Ukraine three ‘golds.’ Our athletes also won six silver and four bronze medals. Thank you for your unbroken spirit and the desire to win," Zelensky wrote on Twitter.
Andriy Trusov (swimming, 50 meters freestyle, class S7), Maksym Kripak (swimming, 100 meters butterfly, class S10) and Maksym Koval (athletics, shot put, class F20) won gold in their disciplines.
Oksana Boturchuk (athletics, 400 meters, class T12), Yehor Dementiev (cycling, separate start race, class C5), Maksym Veraksa (swimming, 100 meters freestyle, class S12), Oleksandr Yarovy, shot put, class F20), Julia Shuliar (athletics, 400 meters, class T20) and Natalia Kobzar (athletics, 400 meters, class T37) brought silver to the national team.
Bronze medals were won by Vasyl Krainik (swimming, 200 meters complex, class SM14), Yevhen Bohodaiko (swimming, 50 meters freestyle, class S7), Yelyzaveta Mereshko (swimming, 100 meters freestyle, class S6), as well as the mix relay team 4×100 meters freestyle, which included Maryna Piddubna, Maksym Veraksa, Anna Stetsenko and Kyrylo Haraschenko (classes S11-S13).
In the overall standings, Ukraine remains in fifth place with 67 awards, including 15 gold, 33 silver and 19 bronze.
