Zakarpattia Regional Administration head meets with British Ambassador to Ukraine Melinda Simmons
KYIV. Sept 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Head of the Zakarpattia Regional State Administration Anatoliy Poloskov held a working meeting with British Ambassador to Ukraine Melinda Simmons, during which they discussed issues of national minorities, the economic situation, cooperation with foreign investors, as well as vaccination issues in the region, the Zakarpattia local authorities’ press service said.
"The issue of national minorities is one of the priorities and is always under special control. We are working to ensure that all children, regardless of nationality, know the national language. I briefed Melinda Simmons about the activities of the Ukrainian-Hungarian interdepartmental working group on education in our region," the local authorities’ press service said, citing Poloskov.
The head of the Regional State Administration informed the British Ambassador with the programs of President Volodymyr Zelensky "Big Construction" and "Big Restoration," projects for the renovation and development of border infrastructure.
During the conversation, they noted the work to increase the capabilities of Uzhgorod international airport and the prospective construction of a new airport in Zakarpattia.
In addition, pandemic and vaccination issues were discussed.
"In turn, Mrs. Ambassador offered cooperation for the implementation of investment projects in various area through cooperation with British companies and raising financial resources," the local authorities said.
Poloskov thanked Ambassador Simmons for the attention to the region and expressed confidence that cooperation between Ukraine and the UK "will be fruitful and beneficial for each of the sides."
