Yermak sees no arguments against recognizing Russia a terrorist state

KYIV. Aug 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak has said he sees no arguments against recognizing Russia a terrorist state.

"No one says ‘no’ […] Because all adequate people in the world have seen that Russia is indeed a sponsor for terrorism. I cannot see any arguments [against recognizing Russia a terrorist state] that could be taken into account today," he said at a joint press briefing with former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and former President of Columbia Juan Manuel Santos Calderen in Kyiv on Tuesday.

According to Yermak, the fact that the recognition of Russia a terrorist state would in fact close any opportunity for any mediation or talks is also not a reason for Ukraine.

"Today we can see that any attempts to become mediators have resulted into nothing. Aggression broke out, the horrible war continues," he said.

"We can set an example: the program of unblocking Ukrainian ports has been launched, but let us see what goes next. Today this indeed refers to a possible food crisis. However, we do not think this is a mediation to stop the war and, which is important to us, withdraw the Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine," Yermak said.
