Yermak discusses EU security situation near borders of Ukraine with ambassadors of G7, peace process in Donbas, law on deoligarchization, course of reforms
KYIV. Dec 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak discussed with the ambassadors of the G7 and the European Union the security situation near the borders of Ukraine, the peace process in Donbas.
As reported on Saturday by the press service of the head of state, Yermak informed foreign diplomats about the progress of the peace process in Donbas and the return of the temporarily occupied territories, as well as about tensions around the state borders of Ukraine.
Yermak thanked international partners for support and assistance to Ukraine at different levels in connection with this situation and the possibility of escalation from Russia.
In context of the negotiation process on Donbas, the head of the President’s Office and the ambassadors of the G7 and EU countries exchanged views on the agenda of the Trilateral Contact Group and Ukraine’s initiatives on this platform.
Yermak also spoke about the internal political processes in Ukraine. He stressed that there are external and internal forces interested in destabilizing the situation, there is also resistance to reforms from the old system, the press service reports.
"I would like to note that this law [the law on limiting the influence of oligarchs] is not directed against any name. Its goal is to exclude opportunities for oligarchic business to influence political processes, buy politicians and manipulate the media. At the same time, no one will take anything from anyone and not violate anyone’s rights," Yermak said.
The parties also raised the issue of adopting a law on improving the organizational and legal framework of the Security Service of Ukraine, holding a competition to elect the head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) and the course of judicial reform, in respect of which significant progress was noted.
Yermak said that the President is interested in bringing these processes to the result expected by the Ukrainian society and foreign partners of Ukraine.
