Work on sanctions against Russia must continue, we still have 'gaps' – President of European Parliament
LVIV. March 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Work on sanctions against the Russian Federation should continue until enough is done, we still have “gaps,” President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has said.
She said at a briefing in Lviv on Saturday morning that they had to move on with sanctions. As they still have “gaps.” She said they had done unprecedented work, accepting many packages, but there were still “gaps” that were abused. So they can still move on. The sanctions are working, she said.
The next sanctions against the Russian Federation in matters of export and import, according to Metsola, should concern, in particular, Russian diamonds and members of the State Duma close to Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as Russian companies that are still present on the European market.
I think it’s a matter of time before we stop asking the question, “Have we done enough?” she said.
Metsola also stressed that if we want to see a safe Europe, we must have a safe Europe.
When we say Ukraine-EU, EU-Ukraine, it means that accession negotiations should start as soon as possible, hopefully before the end of this year. We are impressed by Ukraine’s progress in fulfilling the seven points of the European Commission recommendations, she said.
