We never been as strong as nation and state – Zelensky
KYIV. Aug 24 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainians have never been as strong as a nation and state as they are now, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has said.
"As far as it is possible today, we are so independent. I think that our resilience and independence over these 30 years are in the most serious condition today," Zelensky said at a briefing with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in Kyiv.
According to him, Ukrainians have never been as strong as a nation and a state, despite the war.
"There was no war, somewhere it was easier with the direction of energy resources, gas was cheaper, Russia did not stop transit, and others. But these are absolutely different things. The country was not completely unified geopolitically. I believe that today we are all united. More than 90% of us, despite the war, we are completely independent, we understand that we want to be in Europe, we understand that security guarantees and membership in the Alliance are needed, we understand that we want to be independent from any Russian aggression, we understand that the country must have a strong and powerful army and we are ready to fight for independence," the president said.
He said these are the features of an adult, independent, strong and multinational state.
"We are at this very point today. And it is very important not to lose this. We are completely independent, despite the fact that 20% of our territory is occupied. But believe me, strong independent people live even in those territories. Independence Day with the Ukrainian flag in Melitopol. They are waiting for us. We will be back," Zelensky said.
