Von der Leyen hopes EU energy ministers approve price cap for gas
KYIV. Dec 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Energy ministers of the European Union member states are expected to approve a proposed price cap for gas on Monday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said.
"I am confident that the Energy Council next Monday will reach an agreement on all three [issues]," von der Leyen said at a press conference at the end of an EU summit.
She said she was referring to the idea of setting up a joint gas procurement platform, expediting the issuance of licenses for renewable energy projects, and implementing a mechanism of gas market correction, which stipulates a price cap for gas.
The correction mechanism will apply as soon as the gas price reaches the cap to be approved by the ministers.
