Volume of new housing construction in Ukraine 47.4% down in 2022 – statistics

KYIV. March 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The total area of residential buildings for which permits for construction work (new construction) were issued in 2022 decreased by 47.4% compared to 2021, to 6.67 million square meters, according to the State Statistics Service.

According to the agency, in January-December 2022, the total area of new construction of apartment buildings amounted to 6.529 million square meters (98% of the total volume). The number of apartments announced at the start of construction was 85,000, which is 41% less than last year.

The total area of new housing construction in Kyiv last year decreased by 70% from 2021 – to 878,300 square meters, in Kyiv region – by 33%, to 1.86 million square meters.

According to the State Statistics Service, the volume of new construction in Lviv region decreased by 8% compared to the previous year and amounted to 1.01 million square meters. This is the smallest drop rate among all regions.

In Khmelnytsky region, the volume of new construction decreased by 40%, to 330,800 square meters, in Odesa – by 70%, to 265,300 square meters, in Kharkiv – by 69%, to 214,300 square meters, in Ternopil – by 20%, to 258,700 square meters, in Ivano-Frankivsk – by 16%, to 204,400 square meters.

At the same time, in Volyn region, the volume of new construction in 2022 amounted to 425,100 square meters, which is 2.3 times higher than last year. An increase in volumes compared to last year was also recorded in Rivne region – by 13%, up to 194,000 square meters.

In other regions of Ukraine, the volume of new construction last year showed a drop compared to the previous year and amounted to less than 200,000 square meters.

The State Statistics Service recalls that the figures are given without taking into account the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, as well as parts of the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
