Volume of domestic money transfers 40% up in H1 2021 – NBU

KYIV. Aug 30 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The volume of money transfers within Ukraine using funds transfer systems in January-June 2021 amounted to UAH 166 billion, which is 40% more than in the same period in 2020, the press service of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) said.

According to the report, over the six months, the average transfer amount within Ukraine was UAH 427, which is 18.6% more than in 2019 (UAH 360), and most of the funds were traditionally sent to Kyiv.

It is indicated that almost all transfers within Ukraine were made through funds transfer systems created by residents (99.98%).

The NBU noted that 3.68 million transfers worth $ 1.47 billion in equivalent were sent through the money transfer systems to Ukraine, which exceeded the same indicator in the first half of 2020 by 23.8%. At the same time, the average amount of one transfer increased by 6.9%, to $ 400.

The press service added that 530,000 transfers in the amount of $ 290 million were sent from Ukraine, which is 36.8% more than in the first half of 2020, and the average amount of one transfer from Ukraine increased by 18.2%, to $ 546.

It is noted that Ukraine remains a recipient country of cross-border transfers, the ratio between the amount of funds received in Ukraine using international money transfer systems was five times higher than the amount of funds sent outside of it.

According to the press release, most of the funds came to Ukraine from the United States, Israel and Italy, and were sent from Ukraine to Russia, Georgia and Turkey.

In the regional context, most of the funds from abroad went to Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Lviv regions, and abroad were sent from Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Odesa regions.

In total, according to preliminary estimates of the National Bank, for the six months the volume of private transfers by traditional and informal channels to Ukraine from abroad amounted to $ 6.205 billion in equivalent (of which 24% came through the money transfer systems), and from Ukraine abroad – $ 482 million in equivalent (60% of them were sent through money transfer systems).
