KYIV. Sept 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The number of flights over Ukraine in August 2021 reached 76% of the indicators of August 2019, the same pan-European figure is 71%, Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov said at the presentation of the Airbus A220-300 aircraft.
According to him, in the summer of 2021, the volume of domestic air transportation in Ukraine grew by 3% compared to the summer of 2019.
"We are already observing a growth trend for domestic flights. An important impetus for the development of communication within the country is the development of a network of regional airports, and in the future, the creation of a national air carrier," the minister was quoted as saying on the ministry’s Facebook page.
The ministry said that the upward dynamics of the domestic air transportation market was influenced, in particular, by the opening of new passenger flights from Kyiv to Uzhgorod, Chernivtsi and Kryvy Rih in June 2021, as well as the adoption of bill No. 5301, which extended the period for granting Ukrainian airlines a transitional period for the use of domestically produced aircraft.
Traffic in the three summer months of this year is 230% of the volume of the same period in 2020. The number of flights increased monthly and reached 77,113 flights over the summer.
In August 2021, 29,048 flights were serviced in the Ukrainian airspace, of which domestic airlines performed 10,505 flights (10.2% less compared to the pre-crisis August 2019), foreign airlines – 18,543 flights (30.1% less). The share of flights operated at the Boryspil airport is 34%.
The structure of flights by type: domestic flights – 3,516 flights (a rise of 17.7% compared to the corresponding period of 2019), international flights – 14,595 flights (12.3% less), and transit flights – 10,937 flights (41.2% less).
The figures for the number of flights in the airspace of Ukraine in 2021: July – 26,952 flights, June – 21,113, May – 16,986, April – 13,661, March – 12 160, February – 8,758, January – 9,842.

Since the beginning of this year (January-August), 46,976 flights have been operated at the airport, which is 53.3% more than in 2020.
