Volume of different types of generation during war decreases relatively proportionally – Ukrenergo head

KYIV. Dec 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – During the war, Ukraine continues to receive about half of its electricity from nuclear power plants, the structure of the energy mix has changed proportionally, Board Chairman of NPC Ukrenergo Volodymyr Kudrytsky has said.

"The energy mix, its structure has not changed much. This is due to the fact that, on the one hand, many thermal and hydroelectric power plants were damaged, renewable energy sources also remained in the occupied territory, but we also missed the opportunity to receive electricity from the occupied ZNPP. Therefore, conditionally speaking, our generating capacities have decreased more or less proportionally," he said at a briefing at the Ukrinform Media Center on Friday.

Kudrytsky added that Ukraine still receives half or more of its electricity from nuclear power plants. Next come thermal power plants, to a lesser extent, they provide power for hydroelectric power plants and renewable energy sources.

At the same time, the board chairman of Ukrenergo said that due to the occupation of the ZNPP by the Russians and the cessation of electricity production, "40% of nuclear generation can be safely deducted."

He also drew attention to the fact that during the war the volume of electricity consumption decreased not as much as the possibility of electricity generation.
