Vinnytsia to attract UAH 300 mln for modernization of airport

KYIV. Aug 30 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Vinnytsia City Council has passed the decision to borrow funds to finance the first stage of modernization of the air terminal; funding from the state budget is provided for the renovation of the runway. A loan will be attracted to start work on the air terminal and the search for investor partners will continue, according to the website of the City Council.

"As part of the reconstruction of the airfield, we undertook obligations to reconstruct the airport terminal. The only thing is that it is not worth starting the reconstruction of the airport today, without finally understanding the guarantee of financing for the overhaul of the runway. Today, we are awaiting the funds. Although all organizational procedures on our part and on the part of the Cabinet of Ministers and the relevant ministry have been carried out, the only question is the receipt of funds. We can start today. As for the airport terminal, we worked to find a partner who will build or reconstruct the air terminal. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has made its own adjustments. Therefore, we foresee a loan for the first stage of reconstruction of the airport terminal.

According to the preliminary calculations of the City Council, the large-scale modernization of the airport terminal will last during 2021-2023. At the expense of the budget of the territorial community, design estimates have already been developed using modern Building Information Modeling technologies. The capacity of the terminal after the completion of two phases of reconstruction could reach 550 passengers per hour for international and domestic flights in general.

Reconstruction of the airfield will make it possible to receive aircraft with a capacity of up to 200 passengers of the Boeing 737-800 and Airbus 320 families. According to aviation experts, by attracting new airlines, the company will be able to increase passenger traffic up to 300,000 passengers in the first three to four years after the infrastructure upgrade.
