Verkhovna Rada calls on Georgia, European institutions to transfer Saakashvili for treatment abroad

KYIV. Feb 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Verkhovna Rada has addressed Georgia, the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union, the European Commission, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and the parliaments of the EU member states to transfer the third President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, who is a citizen of Ukraine, for treatment abroad as soon as possible.

Relevant draft resolution No. 8417 was backed by 311 members of parliament at a plenary session on Monday, member of the European Solidarity faction Oleksiy Honcharenko said on the Telegram channel.

Saakashvili was the President of Georgia in 2004-2013.

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the government of Georgia with a call to release Saakashvili.
