Verkhovna Rada authorizes compulsory seizure of property during war
KYIV. Aug 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Verkhovna Rada has authorized compulsory seizure of property under martial law in the territories of Ukraine where there is a threat of temporary occupation.
Respective bill No. 7605 amending specific laws regarding the optimization of some issues related to compulsory alienation and seizure of property under martial law was supported by 278 MPs at a plenary session on Monday, MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak (the Holos faction) has said on the Telegram channel.
The bill allows for compulsory seizure of equipment that can be used for activities in the defense industry and which is at risk of interruption of its functioning due to the location of such property in the territory of Ukraine, where there is a threat of temporary occupation, and the borders of which are located at a distance of no more than 30 kilometers from the area of military (combat) operations or temporarily occupied territory. Alienation and seizure of property are carried out on the basis of a decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) at the suggestion agreed with the regional military administration.
The document stipulates that compensation for alienated property is provided at the expense of the national budget (within five subsequent budget periods).
According to the bill, movable and immovable property can be transferred to the management of the Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA).
