Velta titanium company receives first patent in US for Ukrainian technology of affordable 'green' titanium
KYIV. Sept 19 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Velta with assets for the extraction of titanium-bearing ores in Novomyrhorod (Kirovohrad region) received the first patent in the United States for the Ukrainian technology of affordable "green" titanium.
According to the company’s official press release, Velta Holdings US Inc., the invention for the production of powders of metallic titanium and its alloys has been fully examined and patented by the US Patent and Trademark Office. The patent confirmed the inventive step, novelty and ability for industrial use of the technology.
At the same time, it is specified that Velta Holdings US Inc., formed by two Ukrainian companies, has been working in the mining area for more than 10 years and occupies 2% of the global market for titanium raw materials, an innovative direction was opened in 2017.
For three years of scientific work, scientists from Velta Holdings US Inc. developed a fundamentally new method for producing metallic titanium, which reduces its cost and has zero waste. In 2020, the generated patent was transferred to the USPTO, in 25 months the company received a positive conclusion and a patent. Two national patents were obtained in 2020 and 2021 respectively.
"Two years ago we were confident in the rapid growth of the civilian and technological titanium market, but the war in Ukraine has fundamentally changed the global market. Now titanium is a critical defense raw material and access to it is a matter of national security. Understanding this and having a patented technology, we will continue our path towards the goal of building a number of plants for the manufacture of final titanium products," CEO of Velta Holdings US Inc. Andriy Brodsky commented on the situation.
