USA wants to deploy specialists in Ukraine to monitor use of US aid – media
KYIV. Feb 17 (Interfax-Ukraine) – A number of U.S. agencies are working to deploy auditors and investigators in Ukraine who will monitor how the aid allocated to Kyiv is used, The Wall Street Journal said, citing U.S. officials.
The inspectors general of the Pentagon, the State Department and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) told the newspaper that for the time being they are conducting such inspections remotely, using personnel working in Washington, as well as in Poland and Germany.
However, they said they “would press to put some of the 177 auditors and investigators scrutinizing Ukraine aid on the ground in Ukraine.”
“The closer we are, the more comprehensive oversight will be,” Acting Deputy USAID Inspector General Nicole Angarella said.
The publication said these inspectors general of the three U.S. agencies, among other things, are responsible for ensuring that the supplied weapons are used exactly as agreed by the parties, as well as for ensuring that assistance programs work effectively.
These inspectors also prepare reports on how U.S. administration funds were ultimately used.
