USA urges Russia to stop filtering and forcibly deporting Ukrainians – State Dept
KYIV. Aug 26 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The United States has called on Russia to stop filtering and forcibly deporting Ukrainians, the State Department reports.
According to a press release, the Yale Humanitarian Research Lab has published a new report on Russia’s conduct of filtration camps in Ukraine and forced deportations of protected persons from the country.
It is noted that the report documented 21 objects related to filtration, only in Donetsk region.
“We again call on Russia to immediately halt its filtration operations and forced deportations and to provide outside independent observers access to identified facilities and forced deportation relocation areas within Russia-controlled areas of Ukraine and inside Russia itself,” the message reads.
Also, cases of damage to medical and educational institutions in Luhansk region occupied by Russian troops are described in detail in the reports of the Conflict Observatory.
The State Department recalled the need to document, verify and disseminate information about the actions of the Russian government, as a result of which the United States will allocate an additional $9 million within the framework of the European Democratic Resilience Initiative.
“This focus on accountability lays the foundation for future civil and criminal legal processes, whether in Ukraine, through international mechanisms, or in third-party countries that have established jurisdiction,” the release says.
