US Secretary of State believes Ukraine doesn't pose threat to Russia, but Russia threatens Ukraine

KYIV. Dec 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine does not pose a threat to Russia, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said.

He said at a press conference in Stockholm on Wednesday that despite a large-scale propaganda campaign, Ukraine in no way poses a threat to Russia, and it does not seek ways for confrontation.

According to Blinken, the only threat is the re-emerging threat of Russian aggression against Ukraine.

The Russian side has an idea of what measures the United States can take against it in the event of a conflict between Moscow and Kyiv, Blinken said.

He said at a press conference in Sweden that the United Sates continue to be very clear about what the consequences might be, and he thinks that Moscow has an idea of the options that are possible.

Blinken admitted the possibility that U.S. and Russian Presidents, Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin, may have a conversation in the near future.

He said at a press conference after meeting with Lavrov in Stockholm that Foreign Minister Lavrov and he had a frank exchange of views from different points of view. They agreed to report on this to their presidents, who may have direct contact in the near future.

According to him, now Russia has the opportunity to initiate de-escalation of the situation on the border with Ukraine, in particular, by stopping the build-up of the military grouping on the border, returning Russian troops to peacetime positions and abandoning attempts to destabilize Ukraine.
