US Embassy congratulates OCU on anniversary of receiving Tomos
KYIV. Jan 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The U.S. Embassy in Ukraine congratulated the Orthodox Church of Ukraine on the anniversary of receiving the Tomos of autocephaly.
"Congratulations to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine on the fourth anniversary of receiving the Tomos of Autocephaly! Ukrainians have always cherished their right to live and worship as they choose. We celebrate and support your fierce determination to be free," the embassy said on Twitter.
As reported, on December 15, 2018, the Unification Council was held in Kyiv, at which the Orthodox Church of Ukraine was created, it was headed by Metropolitan Epiphanius (Dumenko) of Kyiv and All Ukraine.
On January 5, 2019, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew signed the Tomos on the autocephaly of the OCU, and on January 6 handed the document to Metropolitan Epiphanius.
Kyiv Metropolis of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Orthodox Church of Ukraine) was registered on January 30, 2019.
In January, the OCU was included in the diptych of local churches on the website of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
