UN Secretary General appoints UN resident coordinator for Black Sea Grain Initiative
NEW YORK (UN). Aug 13 (Interfax-Ukraine) – UN Secretary General António Guterres has appointed Amir Mahmoud Abdulla of Sudan as the Organization’s coordinator for the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
Guterres announced the appointment of Amir Mahmoud Abdulla of Sudan as the UN coordinator for the Black Sea Grain Initiative, the UN press service said in a statement.
It is noted that Abdulla will replace US Representative Frederick Kenney, who held this position temporarily.
The Organization emphasized that Abdulla, having worked in the UN World Food Programme for more than 30 years, has relevant experience in the fields of humanitarian response and management.
On July 22, in Istanbul, with the participation of Ukraine, the UN, Turkey and Russia, two documents were signed on the creation of a corridor for the export of grain from three ports on Ukrainian territory – Chornomorsk, Odesa and Pivdenny. The first ship with 26,000 tonnes of corn left Odesa on August 1.
