UN is 'ambulance' for global problems of mankind – Zelensky

KYIV. Sept 23 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky believes that the UN should get closer to global problems, using effective tools to solve them.

"I really believe that sometimes we postpone solutions from one year to another. With all due respect to the UN General Assembly, I do not see solutions to global problems. But I see rhetoric that "everyone wants." We all want a lot. But there must be effective tools. I also believe that if there are certain countries, they have the right to ‘veto’, but do not even come – how will it help people? The United Nations is the kind of ambulance for the global problems of humanity," Zelensky told Dom TV after speaking at the 76th session of the UN General Assembly.

The head of state said that Ukraine does not criticize, but initiates new formats. In particular, proposes to create new platforms for dialogue precisely where there are global problems.

"We say: let’s do summits, create new platforms. Precisely in those places where there are problems. Because you need to be closer. When you live with a problem, for example, the occupation of Crimea, you understand – what it is, how it can be solved. That is why we have offered to hold the Crimean Platform in our country. There are also many different problems around the world. And we are ready to support, say, such a ‘decentralization’ of important meetings," Zelensky said.

Zelensky addressed the general debate of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly on September 22.
