Ukrzaliznytsia's procurement program fulfilled by less than a third – company head

KYIV. Sept 17 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The procurement program of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia has been completed by less than a third, and for some items there are no purchases at all, Oleksandr Kamyshin, a member of the anti-crisis headquarters for the restoration of sustainable functioning of Ukrzaliznytsia, the head of the company, said.

"Ten years ago, we bought 100,000 tonnes of rails a year. Five years ago – 50,000 tonnes. Today, in 2021, we just purchased 129 tonnes. The situation is similar with the turnouts," he said during a briefing after the first meeting of the headquarters on the procurement situation.

Speaking about solving this problem, Kamyshin said that it is not only in the competence of Ukrzaliznytsia: this requires the assistance of both the supervisory board and the Ministry of Infrastructure, the government and the Verkhovna Rada.

"I hope that one of the final decisions of the work of the headquarters will be proposals and laws that will allow avoiding falling into such traps as now with purchases. This round table is very important, since all participants in the process can openly call things by their proper names without hiding, and from the side of the Ministry of Infrastructure, we see a partner who is ready to solve Ukrzaliznytsia’s problem," Serhiy Leschenko, a member of the company’s supervisory board, said during the briefing.

According to Kamyshin, the next meeting of the headquarters will be held in a month.

As reported, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the decision to create an anti-crisis headquarters on September 8, 2021.
