Ukrzaliznytsia restrictions on wagons for Metinvest's mining plants to not affect situation – group

KYIV. Sept 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Restrictions imposed by Ukrzaliznytsia on the supply of additional railcars from European countries towards mining and processing plants of the Metinvest mining and metallurgical group will not affect the current situation at its enterprises.

"The bans introduced by Ukrzaliznytsia concern only the addition of empty wagons of other administrations [Georgia, Estonia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, etc.] and will not have an impact on the work of enterprises," Metinvest’s press service told Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday in response to a relevant request from the agency.

At the same time, the press service clarified: "As for the mining and processing plants, the enterprises of Metinvest Group in Ukraine are now operating at a minimum of their capacities. Three out of four mining and processing plants have suspended work due to the fact that logistical problems are killing the economy."

And they added that during the war, the resumption of production at the assets is possible only if the issue of external logistics is resolved: the resumption of sea exports from the ports of Ukraine, and an increase in the passage through the western border crossings.

As reported, Ukrzaliznytsia, in particular, from September 4 this year, limited the supply of railcars from a number of European countries for Metinvest mining and processing plants – Inhulets Mining, Pivnichny Mining and Central Mining.

Metinvest is a vertically integrated group of mining and metallurgical enterprises. The group’s enterprises are located mainly in Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
