Ukrzaliznytsia plans to resume railway links at three more border crossings with EU
KYIV. Aug 25 (Interfax-Ukraine) – JSC Ukrzaliznytsia plans to open a railway link at three more border crossings to expand throughput capacity, Deputy Director of the Ukrzaliznytsia Department of Commercial Work Valeriy Tkachev has said during an online meeting on improving the transportation of grain cargo by rail.
"As for expanding the western border crossings: we are also working in this direction. We launched Berezyne-Basarabeasca, now we are considering Hrebenne-Rava-Ruska and Strazhava- Krościenko, as well as Dilove-Valea Vișeului, these four border crossings just aimed at expanding the capacity," he said.
In addition, Tkachev noted that the electrification and repair of the track in the border areas, which had been carried out by Ukrzaliznytsia, were also aimed at expanding the capacity of the railway towards Europe.
As reported, on August 22, 2022, Ukrzaliznytsia resumed freight traffic through Moldova on the Berezyne (Ukraine) – Basarabeasca (Moldova) railway section, which became an alternative route from Odesa to the Danube ports Reni and Izmail.
