Ukrzaliznytsia and Polish PKP sign statement on development of cooperation
KYIV. Sept 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – JSC Ukrzaliznytsia and the Polish national carrier PKP S.A. have signed a joint statement at the railway exhibition in Berlin on the development, continuation and strengthening of cooperation to promote the further development of economic relations between the countries, the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia reported.
"Now, thanks to cooperation with the Polish side, we are increasing the capacity of our transshipment terminals. But the main thing is to find the right vision for the future architecture of European railways. It is important to keep in mind that the railway infrastructure of Poland and Ukraine is more than 40,000 km of tracks connecting the Black and Baltic Seas," said Oleksandr Kamyshin, the general director of Ukrzaliznytsia.
In turn, PKP CEO Krzysztof Maminski noted the increased interest of the Polish side in the implementation of investments on the Polish-Ukrainian border, in particular in terms of creating new infrastructure to increase the transportation of food products.
According to him, these investments can stimulate economic growth in both Poland and Ukraine.
Within the framework of cooperation, the parties will hold periodic consultations on the development of railway transport.
As reported, in the early days of Russian aggression against Ukraine, PKP Group companies joined in helping Ukraine by providing railway stations for the operation of aid points and allowing free travel on the trains of the national carrier PKP Intercity, which were used by more than 2.3 million Ukrainians.
