Ukrtelecom to provide free Wi-Fi in five cities
KYIV. Jan 19 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrtelecom, the largest fixed-line operator in Ukraine, is launching a network of free public Wi-Fi zones in Kyiv, Dnipro, Lviv, Odesa and Kharkiv, which will provide Internet access for 2-4 hours in case of power outages, CEO Yuriy Kurmaz has said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
"While discussing various blackout scenarios, we at Ukrtelecom decided to open a network of free public Wi-Fi zones in five cities, where we upgraded our infrastructure a few years ago and installed Multi-Service Access Nodes [MSAN that connects subscriber lines to the network core]," he said.
Kurmaz said that these are street gray cabinets, familiar to many residents of these cities, on which there will be relevant stickers-pointers.
"There will be more than 700 such zones with public Wi-Fi in Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Lviv, Odesa and Kharkiv. We are just getting ready to widely announce this project," the CEO said.
