Ukrposhta issues first mln LED lamps under EU, govt program
KYIV. Feb 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Since January 31, the moment of the start of the program for the exchange of incandescent lamps for LED ones, Ukrainians have received the first million lamps at Ukrposhta.
As the company said in a press release on Saturday, thanks to EU assistance, the first 4 million lamps were delivered to the regional centers and major cities of the country, Kyiv residents have already exchanged more than 162,000 lamps, Kharkiv residents – more than 80,000, Dnipro – 88,000, and Lviv – 69,000.
"The statistics that we see is mainly people who came to Ukrposhta branches without prior registration. Of course, over the week, there were more people who wanted to exchange lamps: those who registered at Diia only started receiving confirmation for the exchange since Wednesday, some have already managed to come to the branch, and some will receive lamps next week," Igor Smelyansky, general director of Ukrposhta, described the situation.
He noted that from next week it would be possible to exchange lamps at Ukrposhta branches in all cities, and not just in regional centers.
The company clarified that next week another 6 million light bulbs would be available in regional cities, and by the end of February, thanks to the mobile offices of Ukrposhta, the bulbs should also be delivered to the countryside.
"Thus, at the first stage, the citizens of Ukraine will be able to exchange up to 20 million lamps in the next month and a half," the company predicts.
According to earlier estimates, the exchange of incandescent lamps for 50 million LED lamps will reduce the power shortage by about 1 GW. The EU will provide Ukraine with 30 billion lamps, and another 5 million lamps are expected from France.
