Ukrenergo, European partners working on expanding electricity exports rather than limiting – company head
KYIV. Sept 14 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrenergo aims to expand opportunities for exporting electricity to Europe and is not considering options for limiting it, chairman of the company board Volodymyr Kudrytsky said.
"We are actively working with our European colleagues to expand electricity exports from Ukraine to Europe. This export has many times more potential than now," Kudrytsky said at a briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday.
According to him, the restriction of exports is not being considered, and at a meeting next week of the regional group ENTSO-E, which directly decides on export quotas, the issue of its expansion will be considered.
Asked by the Energy Reform online portal about the attitude of European system operators in this regard to the situation at Zaporizhia NPP occupied by Russian troops, Kudrytsky noted that they are confident in the reliability of the Ukrainian energy system, despite this situation.
"Many of them have experience in the nuclear power industry of their countries, of course, they are very interested and worried, and they used to ask questions about how we balance the energy system with reduced production at ZNPP. Now they don’t ask such questions. Every morning we exchange messages. They receive reports that our system is balanced, and we – that the Ukrainian energy system supports the frequency of the European network well and that there are no technical problems," the head of Ukrenergo described the current situation.
He also noted that from October 1, it is planned to increase exports to Poland through one of the existing grids, and by the end of the year, commercial electricity supplies will be further increased due to the opening of the second line.
"We are on schedule for these projects, effective work is underway between the operators of Ukraine and Poland," Kudrytsky said.
He also added that Ukraine can also export coal to Poland.
