Ukrainians file 135,000 applications for damaged property – Shuliak

KYIV. May 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainians have filed 135,000 applications for damaged and destroyed property during Russia’s military aggression in Ukraine, the head of the Servant of the People party, the deputy head of the Verkhovna Rada committee on the organization of state power, local self-government, regional development and urban planning, Olena Shuliak, said.

"The total area of damaged housing is already 9.401 million square meters," Shuliak said at a meeting with companies of the European Business Association (EBA) on May 4.

According to her, it is necessary to start the process of compensation for such housing before international courts and receipt of reparations.

"Now the efforts of all branches of government are aimed at helping the Armed Forces of Ukraine and working with international partners, but at the same time it is worth planning the post-war reconstruction of the country. Businesses agree with the beliefs of Olena Shuliak that it is necessary to talk about the restoration of the country now, despite the ongoing heavy hostilities " the EBA said in a press release.

According to him, the government has already allocated more than UAH 1 billion for the rapid restoration of the de-occupied regions. The list of works includes demining, restoration of transport links, networks and communications, current repairs (replacement of windows, roofs).
