Ukrainian, US Air Force commanders discuss strengthening of air defense amid F-16 possible deliveries

KYIV. Feb 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Commander of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykola Oleschuk discussed with Commander of the U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Africa James Hecker the supply of military equipment, weapons and ammunition within the international technical assistance to Ukraine.

“In particular, I discussed the issue of strengthening the capabilities of the air defense of Ukraine in the context of the possible provision of multipurpose F-16 jets to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the AFU Air Force said on its Telegram channel on Tuesday.

Oleschuk thanked Hecker, as well as the government and the people of the United States for their consistent support of Ukraine.

As reported, on February 27, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhny discussed with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. Armed Forces Mark Milley the supply of military equipment to Ukraine, the situation on the front line and the plans of the Ukrainian defense forces.

“Updated the need to strengthen the capabilities of Ukraine’s air defense system, including through the provision of F-16 multipurpose combat aircraft,” Zaluzhny said in Telegram.
