Ukrainian soldiers tortured before being buried in mass grave in Izium – Lubinets
KYIV. Sept 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian servicemen whose bodies were found in one of the mass graves in Izium were tortured before being killed, Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets said.
"There is also a place where the bodies of Ukrainian servicemen were found. We already have evidence… I have already made sure personally… The guys were tortured before the murder: their hands were tied with ropes behind their backs. And most likely, they were tortured before that and then killed point-blank," he said at a briefing on Friday in Kharkiv region.
However, he does not exclude that other similar burials will be discovered.
"You will see a very large burial of the civilian population. For example, there are whole families there," the ombudsman added.
Lubinets specified that there are about 500 graves of the civilian population in Izium and "so far one grave has been established, where up to 20 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are en masse buried."
