Ukrainian, Russian Ombudsmen discuss issues of intensifying swap of prisoners of war, wounded soldiers
KYIV. Jan 11 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets listed to journalists the main blocks of issues that were discussed at a meeting with the Russian Ombudswoman Tatiana Moskalkova, held in Ankara (Turkey).
Among them, in particular, are the issues of intensifying the exchange of prisoners of war and, separately, the issues of the exchange of wounded, as well as the issues of citizens of Ukraine who have been serving long terms on the territory of the Russian Federation since 2014. ""Their number is quite large," Lubinets said. According to him, there was a separate discussion about citizens of Ukraine who committed criminal offenses on the territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
In addition, Lubinets said, the issues of family reunification, the return of children, the exchange of official documents of citizens who are on the territory of Ukraine or the Russian Federation were discussed.
"A separate block was the issue of non-compliance, in our opinion, with the Geneva Convention on the part of the Russian Federation regarding the detention and appropriate treatment of prisoners of war," the Ukrainian Ombudsman said.
In this regard, Lubinets also noted a separate set of issues regarding the activities of the International Red Cross on the territory of Ukraine and Russia. "I have officially stated that the Russian Federation should provide access for representatives of the Red Cross to places of detention of Ukrainian prisoners of war," Lubinets said.
