Ukrainian planes evacuate more than 600 people from Afghanistan – Yermak

KYIV. Aug 30 (Interfax-Ukraine) – More than 600 people have already been taken out of Afghanistan by Ukrainian planes, head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak said on his Facebook page on Saturday.

"In addition to our compatriots, they also rescued foreigners – those who were in danger. Journalists and human rights activists, women and children were among them. In total, we have already taken out more than 600 people," he wrote.

According to Yermak, Ukraine responded to the partners’ appeal with a request to save their citizens. Also, Ukrainian planes evacuated reporters from international publications, in particular Globe and Mail, WSJ, USA Today, Stars and Stripes.

It is noted that due to the tense situation in Afghanistan, the Ukrainian rescuers had to break into the city and return in the same way in the face of strong opposition, taking the civilians with them to the place of evacuation. Fortunately, there were no losses.

The head of the President’s Office thanked the employees of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine for the operation.

He also noted that Ukrainian citizens can still remain in other places in Afghanistan. The President’s Office is constantly monitoring the situation, the hotline of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is operating 24 hours a day.

"Not a single of our citizen in trouble will be left to his fate," the head of the President’s Office emphasized.

Earlier it was reported that according to Yermak, Ukraine evacuated from Afghanistan all Ukrainians who declared their desire to leave Afghanistan. Three Ukrainian aircraft landed at Boryspil airport on Saturday evening.
