Ukrainian Hotmine, Yuzhnoukrainsk NPP intend to build digital power plant
KYIV. Oct 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian Hotmine (Spechash LLC) and Yuzhnoukrainsk nuclear power plant (NPP, a subdivision of the National Nuclear Generating Company Energoatom) intend to build a digital power plant with a prospective capacity of 100 MW, which will allow converting the excess basic electrical energy of the nuclear power plant into digital (cryptocurrency), Hotmine founder and owner Oles Slobodeniuk said in a press release last week.
"The project implementation strategy provides for the construction of a pilot digital power station with a capacity of 1 MW with its subsequent build-up to 100 MW. The digital power station will represent several sea containers in which digital transformers will be placed," Slobodeniuk said.
During the presentation of the project on September 28 in Yuzhnoukrainsk (Mykolaiv region), the owner of Hotmine presented a demonstration model of a digital power plant with a capacity of 0.5 kW, as a prototype of the future industrial digital power stations.
"This is a demo model with a capacity of 0.5 kW, which transforms electricity into virtual assets. We pass a certain amount of electricity through a digital transformer and get bitcoin or other virtual assets at the output," Slobodeniuk said, commenting on the principle of the station’s operation.
According to him, the digital power station will be decentralized, that is, any individual can invest in it.
"The opportunity to become investors is provided to all citizens of Ukraine. We would like to have about 1,000 representatives of the community living in the 30-kilometer zone of Yuzhnoukrainsk NPP for 1 MW of the plant’s capacity. This will be the first decentralized digital power plant," the founder of the company said.
According to preliminary calculations, the initial investment per person can be at the level of $800-1,200, the yield of the station will be 20-30% on terms of cooperation for at least three years.
Hotmine (Spechash LLC) was founded in 2013. The company is engaged in R&D and implementation of projects in the field of production of virtual assets (mining), installation and configuration of equipment for obtaining virtual assets, production of such equipment, as well as the import of its components in Ukraine.
