Ukrainian govt establishes National Mine Action body
KYIV. Nov 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine at a meeting on Wednesday made a decision to create a National Authority for Mine Action.
The National Mine Action Authority is an interdepartmental body that operates on a collegial basis under the leadership of the Minister of Defense and coordinates the activities of ministries and other central and local authorities, institutions and organizations that are involved in mine action activities.
One of the main tasks of the National Agency is the development and introduction of a national standard for mine action. The head of the National Authority was appointed the Minister of Defense, the First Deputy – the Deputy Minister of Defense, and the Deputy Head – the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs. The composition also included deputy ministers for reintegration, education, health care, social policy, foreign affairs, a representative of Ukraine’s State Security Service (SBU) and the State Emergency Service.
