Ukrainian FM: Issue of MAP in NATO removed from agenda since we submitted application
KYIV. April 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The issue of providing an Action Plan for NATO Membership (MAP) has been removed from the agenda, since Ukraine has applied for membership, said Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba.
Answering journalists’ questions following the meeting of the Ukraine–NATO commission in Brussels, Kuleba said that the development of a multi-year initiative to support Ukraine announced by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is not a substitute for the MAP.
“The MAP issue has been removed from the agenda, because we have updated, submitted an application. We are talking about further strengthening the comprehensive package of NATO assistance. And this cannot be a substitute for membership and cannot be a condition for membership. This is a practical assistance mechanism that NATO wants to make as strong and powerful as possible. And in parallel, there is a process of making political decisions regarding Ukraine’s membership in NATO,” he said.
