Ukrainian Embassy in Georgia in contact with three Ukrainians caught in avalanche on Mount Kazbek – MFA
KYIV. Aug 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ukrainian Embassy in Georgia has established contact with three Ukrainians caught in an avalanche on Mount Mqinvartsveri (Kazbek), they were evacuated by helicopter to the town of Stepantsminda, said Oleh Nikolenko, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
"One climber has her arm broken, she is now hospitalized. The condition of the other two climbers is satisfactory. All citizens are now in a safe place. The injured plan to arrive in Tbilisi tomorrow for further return to Ukraine," Nikolenko told Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday.
He assured that the consuls would provide the citizens of Ukraine with the necessary consular support.
Earlier, an avalanche hit a group of five tourists from Poland and Ukraine, two of whom were not injured, and three with fractures were taken to hospital by rescuers. Two Polish citizens and one Ukrainian are among the victims. As representatives of the rescue service told reporters, the avalanche descended at an altitude of about 4.7 km.
Mount Mqinvartsveri is located in Kazbegi municipality of Mtskheta-Mtianeti region of Georgia on the border with the Russian Federation.
