Ukrainian detained in the Netherlands on suspicion of transporting illegal migrants – MFA
KYIV. Sept 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Dutch Coast Guard has detained a citizen of Ukraine – the captain of a sailing vessel on suspicion of transporting illegal migrants by sea; the Ukrainian Embassy in the Netherlands is interacting with Dutch law enforcement officers to clarify all the circumstances of this case, said Oleh Nikolenko, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
"On September 17, the Dutch coast guard detained a Ukrainian citizen, the captain of a sailing ship, on suspicion of transporting illegal migrants by sea. The court chose the Ukrainian a measure of restraint in the form of detention for two months," Nikolenko told Interfax-Ukraine on Monday.
According to him, the Dutch border police have launched a pretrial investigation.
"The Embassy of Ukraine in the Netherlands interacts with the Dutch law enforcement agencies to clarify all the circumstances of this case, to ensure the observance of the procedural rights of the citizen," the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine said.
