Ukrainian delegation to TCG calls on Russia to open entry-exit checkpoint in Donbas to receive pensions, vaccinations

KYIV. Oct 13 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ukrainian delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) in Donbas called on Russia to facilitate the opening of entry-exit checkpoints for the possibility of receiving pensions and vaccinating citizens living in the temporarily occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions in the Ukraine-controlled territory.

"Our delegation called on the Russian side to find out the list of possible measures to restore the ability, first of all, for the disabled and pensioners, as well as other vulnerable categories of Ukrainian citizens, to cross the contact line and receive pensions and assistance intended for them at the Stanytsia Luhanska entry-exit checkpoint, and not limit opportunities for vaccination of citizens at this entry-exit checkpoint," the Ukrainian delegation of the TCG said on Facebook.

Deputy Head of the Ukrainian delegation Oleksandr Merezhko said, Ukraine proposes to increase the opportunities for vaccination of pensioners and other citizens at the Stanytsia Luhanska entry-exit checkpoint.

It is also reported the Russian side continues to prevent the crossing of the contact line by citizens living in the temporarily occupied territories.

"Thus, they [the Russian side] closed the only entry-exit checkpoint operating in Luhansk region ‘Stanytsia Luhanska,’ which further complicates the socio-economic situation of our citizens amid COVID-19 epidemic. Unfortunately, representatives of the Russian occupation administrations in the temporarily occupied territories in Luhansk region did not agree with the proposal to consider any measures that would allow pensioners to cross the contact line," the delegation said.

In addition, the Ukrainian delegation continues to insist on the need for the early release of all persons held due to the conflict, as well as on strict adherence to the ceasefire.

The next TCG meeting is scheduled for October 27.
