Ukrainian agrarian business to need over $30 bln to restore losses inflicted by Russia – Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy
KYIV. Sept 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – To eliminate the consequences of the full-scale Russian invasion, the Ukrainian agrarian business needs a long period of time to recover and more than $30 billion in funding, while at the initial stage it will require about $500 million.
These figures were named by Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotsky in an interview with the UkraineWorld publication.
According to him, as a result of Russian aggression, agrarian business of Ukraine received over $4 billion in direct damage due to destroyed, burned and stolen assets and valuables, as well as more than $22 billion in lost potential income from unsold food stocks.
These figures are similar to the results of a June study by the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE), according to which, by the middle of June, the Russian Federation had inflicted about $4.3 billion in direct damage to the Ukrainian agrarian business and $23.3 billion in indirect damage. In addition, the total value of foodstuffs stolen by the Russians is estimated at $613 million.
The Deputy Minister said that Russian aggression brought death, grief, suffering and insane losses to Ukraine’s economy – destroyed fields, stolen grain, equipment and finished products, destroyed and looted warehouses, enterprises, as well as temporary loss of territories due to occupation.
Vysotsky also said that the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine are documenting complaints filed by citizens about the theft of agricultural products and foodstuffs by the aggressor, after which the country will file lawsuits against the Russian Federation in international courts.
