Ukraine's participation in IAEA Board of Governors to contribute to speedy application of sanctions against Rosatom – Energy Minister
KYIV. Feb 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Participation in the IAEA Board of Governors will allow Ukraine to directly inform European colleagues about the crimes of Russian invaders at Ukrainian nuclear facilities, and will also contribute to the speedy implementation of sanctions against Rosatom, Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Haluschenko has said.
“Our presence in the IAEA Board of Governors will provide us with an opportunity to convey directly to the IAEA participants information about the crimes and actions of Russia regarding violation of all international agreements in the field of nuclear energy. I think it’s fair, given what is happening today at Ukraine’s nuclear facilities, in particular at the occupied Zaporizhia NPP,” the minister said during the United News telethon on Tuesday.
According to him, Ukraine’s participation in the IAEA Board of Governors will also provide an opportunity to find common solutions with European colleagues for the speedy implementation of sanctions against Rosatom.
“I spoke with many ministers and they explained to me why they are cautious about sanctions: because we are talking about the need to replace Russian nuclear fuel now. And today there is an important factor that such fuel [alternative to Russian one] should be available. We are talking directly about fuel assemblies for Russian-made VVER-440 reactors,” Haluschenko said.
