Ukraine's membership in NATO is essential for its survival – Yermak

KYIV. Feb 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Head of the President’s Office of Ukraine Andriy Yermak said Ukraine’s accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is essential for its survival.

Speaking on Newsmax’s “Spicer & Co” on Monday, Yermak said nations like Turkey and Hungary, which are hesitant to allow Ukraine to join NATO, need to understand Kyiv’s existential position.

“It is necessary to all the member of NATO, and all the members of the European Union will be interested and feel their interest in Ukraine coming to the alliance and union,” Yermak said.

“Our membership in NATO is the most important element of our security,” he said.

Yermak also said need for a quick victory for Kyiv as Russia restructures its military command and could potentially receive Chinese military assistance. Ukraine, according to Yermak, dreams of peace and “full territorial integrity.” “The best wish and best dream of Ukrainians are to end this war as soon as possible,” he said.

Yermak saidthe Ukrainian president is ready to meet with Chinese leader Xi Jin Ping. However, he declined to comment on whether Zelenskyy would meet with Putin and said his country remained “skeptical” of a ceasefire.

“We will not accept this… ceasefire because Russia always uses ceasefire to frozen the conflict and to be ready for a new annexation, for new aggressions,” Yermak said. “We do not trust this signal,” he also said.
