Ukraine's healthcare system withstands challenge of war thanks to transformation – NHSU head
KYIV. May 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The healthcare system of Ukraine has withstood the challenge of war thanks to its transformation, Head of the National Health Service of Ukraine (NHSU) Natalia Husak during the national telethon #UArazom on Friday.
"It is very good that the transformation of the healthcare system in Ukraine took place before COVID-19 and the war. Most of the changes that were made during the transformation allowed the medical sector to effectively contain these challenges," she said.
Husak said that at present, a patient can receive medical assistance regardless of the place of registration, and the declaration with the family doctor will be canceled only if it is signed with a new doctor.
In addition, she said that medical institutions in Ukraine, located far from the line of hostilities, are provided with medicines and medical supplies at the expense of humanitarian aid. They also continue to procure medicines under the Medical Guarantees program.
At the same time, in regions where active hostilities are taking place, the supply line with hospitals has been disrupted, and there is a shortage of medicines and medical materials.
