Ukraine's Defense Ministry does not see huge threat to Ukraine from Transnistria now – spokesperson
KYIV. May 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – As of now, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine does not see a huge threat to Ukraine from Transnistria, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Oleksandr Motuzianyk has said.
"I can only say that the situation there is not easy. As of now, we do not see a huge threat to Ukraine from Transnistria, but nevertheless, the General Staff is closely monitoring the situation and following what is happening there at the moment," Motuzianyk said at the briefing at the Ukraine media center in Kyiv on Wednesday.
According to him, there have been no significant changes in Transnistria over the past 24 hours, and in general, there is a difficult security situation there.
"The local authorities have banned any events there, including on the territory of military facilities or military units. The Russian units that are in Transnistria are on full alert. The local armed formations of Transnistria are also in enhanced mode. In addition, Russia is there constantly aggravating the situation in order to intimidate the local population that there seems to be a threat to Transnistria from Ukraine. But this is absolute nonsense. Russian propaganda invents: some Ukrainian drones seem to be flying over weapons and ammunition depots. All this is absolutely not true, " Motuzianyk said.
