Ukraine's application for OECD membership to be considered in late Sept – president's office
KYIV. Sept 17 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak held a meeting with heads of foreign diplomatic missions on Ukraine’s accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the creation of a special tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine, according to the President’s website.
The meeting was attended by heads of embassies of the USA, France, Canada, Italy, Slovakia, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Sweden, Germany, Great Britain and the EU Delegation to Ukraine. It was also attended by Deputy Heads of the President’s Office Andriy Smyrnov and Roman Mashovets.
The head of the President’s Office recalled that Ukraine was striving to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and join the OECD Working Group on Bribery in International Business Transactions.
"The application of our state for membership in the OECD will be considered at a meeting of the Organization’s Council at the end of September this year, and a formal request to join the OECD Working Group should be considered during a meeting of this body on October 10-14," the press release says.
The head of the President’s Office also informed the heads of foreign diplomatic missions about Ukraine’s initiative to create a special international tribunal, which mandate will extend exclusively to proving guilt for the crime of aggression.
Andriy Smyrnov said that the Ukrainian side was finalizing a draft international treaty on the creation of this tribunal in order to start negotiations on its signing. He noted that Ukraine stood for the creation of a tribunal on the basis of an open international treaty, which would be joined by various civilized countries.
