(Paragraphs 5-6 have been added)
KYIV. Sept 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine is working to ensure that the summit of the leaders of the Normandy Four countries on resolving the situation in Donbas will take place before the end of the tenure of German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel, Head of the President’s Office of Ukraine Andriy Yermak has said.
"Consultations in the Normandy format continue, both videoconferences and real meetings between the sides […]. Today we are working to ensure that the meeting of the leaders of the Normandy format will take place even before the end of Merkel’s cadence. We believe that this would be very fair, as she really I did a lot for this. Today we have only two witnesses who remember and were present during the signing of the Minsk agreements, therefore it is very important for us that such a meeting takes place in the near future," Yermak said on the air of the ICTV television channel on Monday.
According to Yermak, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also called on the Russian president for direct negotiations.
"It is important for the negotiations to take place. But Russian officials are constantly not satisfied with the agenda. But if there is a desire to end the war, you have to sit down and talk," Yermak said.
Yermak also believes today it is clear for the entire civilized world that Ukraine adheres to the Minsk agreements, despite the opposite statements of Russia.
"We have many questions regarding these agreements, but we are a responsible country, this document was signed on behalf of our country," the presidential press service said, citing Yermak.
