Ukraine, UK sign Plan for post-war restoration of transport infrastructure
KYIV. Aug 25 (Interfax-Ukraine) – A joint action plan to restore the transport infrastructure of Ukraine was signed by Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov and Minister of Transport of Great Britain Grant Shapps on Thursday, the press service of the Ministry of Infrastructure reported on Thursday.
"The fate of war is decided not only on the battlefield. Ukraine needs a powerful economy and stable infrastructure facilities," Kubrakov is quoted as saying in the press release.
Under the terms of the Plan, British partners will share engineering experience, as well as provide a new support package for the restoration of war-damaged infrastructure.
In addition, prestigious private British companies will give their expertise.
The UK will also transfer five buses to Go Ahead Group to improve the mobility of the Ukrainian population and acquire equipment to restore critical grain export routes.
According to the agreement, the British partners will propose a plan for the reconstruction of the airport, runway and port infrastructure, and will also work with the Ministry of Infrastructure on the possibility of training airport personnel, air traffic controllers and aviation security.
According to the ministry, the amount of support from the UK government currently amounts to about GBP 4 billion.
In addition, the British partners have imposed the broadest and strictest package of sanctions ever imposed on Russia or any other major economy in the world. In particular, more than 1,000 people, 100 companies were sanctioned, and strict measures were taken against Russian yachts and private planes. This caused damage to the Russian oligarchs by approximately GBP 117 billion, the release states.
