Ukraine to receive EUR 36.4 mln in grant aid from E5P fund – EBRD
KYIV. Dec 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Germany, Sweden, Finland and Norway allocate EUR 41.1 million in grants to the Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership (E5P) Fund, the main beneficiary of the grants will be Ukraine, which will receive EUR 36.4 million, the press service of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said.
The EBRD has received new donor contributions of EUR 41.1 million on behalf of E5P. As noted, this funding concerns projects in the countries of the Eastern Partnership: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
The latest contributions were announced on December 9 at the E5P Assembly in London. Germany and Sweden provide Ukraine with EUR 20 million and EUR 10 million, respectively. Finland contributes EUR 6.1 million to the region (of which EUR 4.5 million for Ukraine), and Norway provides EUR 5 million (of which EUR 1.9 million for Ukraine).
The release states that the total assistance to war-torn Ukraine is EUR 36.4 million, these funds are intended to support urgent measures for resilience and future green reconstruction.
E5P is a multi-donor fund initiated by Sweden and operating in the Eastern Partnership region. To date, the European Union, the largest donor, and 24 donor countries, including Sweden, Germany, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland and the United States, have provided a total of EUR 311 million.
To date, E5P has supported 43 projects ranging from district heating to green buses, from sustainable waste management to energy efficiency in public buildings across the region. Together, these projects have an investment value of EUR 1.3 billion and are expected to benefit more than 12 million people, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1 million tonnes per year (equivalent to 500,000 vehicles annually), and safely dispose of more than 270,000 cubic meters of waste per year. The projects are supported by the EBRD, the Council of Europe Development Bank, the European Investment Bank and the Nordic Green Bank (Nefco).
