Ukraine to pass point of no return to colonial status after joining EU, NATO – Poroshenko

KYIV. Aug 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The biggest enemies of Ukraine are the Russian aggressor and the desire to quickly solve complex problems within the country, fifth president of Ukraine, MP Petro Poroshenko has said.

According to the press service of the European Solidarity party, he said this in an interview with the Ukrainska Pravda newspaper as part of a special project dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Independence.

According to Poroshenko, the internal factor is the desire for quick and simple solutions to complex problems.

"Sometimes, it is the inability to run a marathon. Very quickly we get frustrated and start looking for the guilty. Paternalism is the inheritance of the ‘sovok’ [derogatory word describing someone who uncritically supports Soviet values]. Sometimes it is unwillingness to be responsible both in small matters and in large ones," he said.

The fifth president of Ukraine called the Russian imperial ruler an external threat. "It does not matter who it is: Peter the First or Catherine the Second, Vladimir Lenin or Vladimir Putin. Their essence is the same – to destroy Ukraine and the Ukrainian. Russian imperialism has many faces, more than one generation of Russian politicians feeds on its instincts. I am afraid that Putin’s successors will also inherit them," he said.

Poroshenko believes that Russian President Putin does not need Crimea and Donbas.

"Russia encroaches on the whole of Ukraine, since it denies our very right to separate existence as a nation and a state. Therefore, we will pass the point of no return to colonial status only when Ukraine joins the European Union and NATO, receives effective guarantees of security and territorial integrity," the fifth president of Ukraine said.
