Ukraine to implement railway development projects for EUR 4.5 bln until 2030 as part of integration into TEN-T

KYIV. March 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The inclusion of Ukrainian railways in the European TEN-T network allows getting access to EU assistance tools, within the framework of integration into TEN-T it is planned to implement projects for the development of railways worth EUR4.5 billion by 2030, Director of the Reform Support Team (RST) of the Ministry of Restoration Iryna Koshel-Repnevska said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

“Ukraine has been in the TEN-T network not so long ago – since 2017. As part of this work, there is a so-called investment indicative plan of the European Commission for the development of TEN-T corridors, which provides for investments, the development of relevant areas. In Ukraine, it is planned to implement development projects worth EUR 4.5 billion within the TEN-T network until 2030,” she said.

The expert noted that the European Commission has amended the TEN-T indicative maps to include Ukrainian railways. In particular, the North-Baltic Corridor is extended through Lviv and Kyiv to Mariupol, the Baltic-Black Sea corridor is extended through Lviv, Chernivtsi (Romania and Moldova) to Odesa, the corridors Baltic Sea-Adriatic Sea and Rhine-Danube will pass through Lviv.

According to her, the European Commission excluded Russian and Belarusian routes from the TEN-T network, lowered the status of routes in the EU that are at the junctions with these countries.

She stressed that the inclusion of Ukrainian railway corridors in TEN-T and access to financing are investment opportunities, including for EU countries. For Ukraine, this is also an appropriate status.
